The empty board with the LEGO base plates looks at me like some empty canvas. Nothing is plotted or planned just yet. This scene has played out every year for the close to twenty-six of them. Though no two builds ever start out the same way.
It is a thought or an idea that fires up the creative engines. A desire in the soul that moves the hands in chaotic motion. Starting off with the rough grid that will turn into the layout. Though many revisions and changes will take place before things are “locked in”.
Through out the entire process the prayer has already started. With each movement of my hands speaking far more than my words ever could. Transforming each part into a silent desire to see the world and our church move in better and more positive directions. That we would consider the needs of everyone we run across in this life. In those moments my work is prayer.
A desire that I have is to draw closer to Christ though prayer with out ceasing. To spend time though out the entire day keeping issues at hand in a silent call and request to the Lord for His help. Doesn’t matter what those prayers are for. What matters is that for me, prayer is the foundation, that all of our lives should be built on. Taking time to have a “conversation with God”.
With these builds that play out it is a desire to find solutions to existing challenges. Turing prayer into proper action. As the layout takes shape and the walls start to be built. Action is moved in ways even we cannot fully understand or see. Answers develop from the silent prayers as difficulties and challenges are navigated.
I really do not need to see a reward for the hard work that each build brings. Just simply knowing that the desire to want to serve the Lord though work and prayer is really all one needs. As the final brick is placed and the build itself is finished. One would think that the prayers are finished. Yet in reality it has only just started and will hopefully never fully end. -
